If Christmas is good for anything, it’s for providing the perfect excuse to eat your weight in cheese and nibbles, thanks to the humble charcuterie board. The word derives from 15th Century France, meaning ‘flesh’ and ‘cooked’. It formed due to food being harder to access, which encouraged people to use every bit of meat so to not waste. The leftover meat was then preserved and cured to keep it edible for longer. And thus, the charcuterie board was born. Over the years it has grown and developed, with the addition of cheese, figs, nuts, grapes, and other additions.
